Matthew Savory
About Dr. Savory
Matt grew up in New England and got his bachelor’s degree from Saint Anselm College in New Hampshire. He received his medical degree in Osteopathic Medicine – the study of helping the body heal itself – from the New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1997. He completed his medical residency in Worcester. Board-certified in internal medicine, he came to the Lowell area and worked as an associate physician before joining Mill City Medical as a partner in 2003.
Matt also wears a number of other hats within the local medical community. He’s a staff physician at Lowell General Hospital, where he also serves as a director for case management. On the sportier side of things, Matt serves both as the medical director and as team physician for the UMass Lowell Athletic Department. Plus, he’s the medical director for the Certified Athletic Trainer Program at Merrimack College. “With my sports medicine training,” Matt says, I have a focus on helping athletes be healthy athletes, which involves developing care plans when injuries occur and promoting injury prevention through healthy living choices.”
In the education realm, Matt teaches what he preaches, He’s an adjunct professor in the medical administration training program at Merrimack’s College of Health Sciences.
Why did he choose to become a doctor? “Medicine affords you the opportunity to make relationships with your clients that is unlike any other profession,” Matt says. “You truly have the opportunity to impact the lives of those that you have the privilege to care for.”
At Mill City, Matt makes a point of really getting to know each of his patients. “Learning about an individual’s home life, hobbies, profession and more helps me develop a care plan that is mutually beneficial for the patient and me,” he says. “Developing an active partnership with my patients is key. Connecting on a personal level enhances that partnership and ultimately leads to better medical care.”
Outside the practice, Matt aims to practice what he preaches, too. He’s big into exercise and enjoys skiing, golfing, and spending time with his family.
