About Linda Xayachack
Physician assistant Allison Huoth graduated from Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences in 2018. “During rotations, I appreciated the relationship that providers had with their patients in the primary care setting,” she says. “I saw the benefits of continuity of care and preventative medicine.”
After graduation, Allison worked briefly at an allergy and asthma/primary care clinic. Then, her career path to Mill City Medical became a very personal one. “My grandmother is actually a patient here, and after meeting with a few of the doctors, I found that their values and mine really aligned,” she says. “I started working here soon after.”
Her work at the allergy and asthma clinic has nicely carried over into our primary care setting, and she spends some time with patients discussing ways to reduce their allergen exposure and adjusting their medications and inhalers.
She also works closely with Dr Chemaly on Mill City’s weight management programs. “We discuss diet and exercise plans and manage medication,” Allison says. “It’s rewarding to see patients meet their weight goals, and also watch their diabetes, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol improve.”
For Allison, patience truly is a virtue – and one she relies on with patient care. “Most of the time, patients come in because they’re not feeling well,” she says. “They may not be themselves or be in the best mood. It’s important to be patient, empathize, and give them some grace.”
What’s more, she wants her patients to feel heard. “In many medical practices, patients are disappointed with their care because the providers don’t address their concerns,” Allison says. “I try my best to ensure patients understand their illness and their options, and then discuss a plan that the patients are comfortable with.”
When she’s not at Mill City Medical, Allison enjoys watching shows curled up on the couch with her dog. “I also love to run, hike, and be outdoors – when it’s warm out, of course!”
